Bayer Cropscience Upgrading Its Sacramento Facilities

Bayer Cropscience announced plans to upgrade its existing 160,000 sq foot research and development lab in Sacramento to expand its research into agricultural development. The company had already been utilizing 130,000 sq feet of space, but their new plans include the development of a high tech greenhouse in addition to a multitude of labs being developed where there was was only warehouses.

In the coming weeks, the doors to the high tech greenhouse will be opened and will be segmented into two distinct facilities. The first, for research into vegetable seeds and the second, for research into biologics. Bayer’s biologics division evaluates biological controls for protecting plants from disease and insects with the end goal of replacing chemical controls and fertilizers which would lead the way toward zero-impact agriculture.

The expansion of the Sacramento office is already in full swing. A year ago, the company’s biologics headquarters was relocated from Davis to the Sacramento facility and just last month, the company’s vegetable seeds division made the move which brought roughly 200 additional employees to the facility.
