Microsoft Research Expands to Include 10 Cutting Edge Projects

Microsoft is trying to change critics’ perception that they’re not nearly as innovative or tech-driven as counterparts, Google and Facebook. Recent efforts were outlined by CEO Satya Nadella, which represented nearly $10 billion in R&D spending in 2014, while Google’s annual budget was about $8 billion.

The ‘wow’ factor is clearly present in the Microsoft research business, one in particular worth mentioning is their project called HoloLens – Microsoft’s foray into augmented, virtual reality allows users to place interactive objects in their field of view. Not only do these lens have practical applications for industrial and architectural design users, but they also can be used for telemedicine, education, and of course the ever-changing and rapidly growing world of video game technology.

Some of their other 9 ‘major’ projects include: Project Adam (deep learning artificial intelligence), Hyperlapse (time lapse video technology), Sewage-Powered Data Center, AutoCharge System (intelligent solar charging via focused light beam), Semantic Paint (3D environment mapping technology), Micro:bits (a new controller platform), Universal Translator, Magic Scarf (intelligent clothing for disabled persons), and Project Oxford (facial recognition and analysis application). Microsoft is definitely doubling down on their future goals.
